Remembering Dale Earnhardt
Posted by: | CommentsThe world of racing was changed 10 years ago with the death of Dale Earnhardt. I sit here in Daytona Beach for Speedweeks like I have done for the past 20 years and look around and see how much the sport has changed. There are many changes in the world of racing and of course that is just part of life but Dale Earnhardt’s passing left a huge hole in the sport.
Let me say I was never a Dale Earnhardt fan. I was a Davey Allison fan but that doesn’t stop me from realizing how much the loss of Dale Earnhardt affected the sport. I think Dale had the ear of Bill France and he truly knew what was good for the sport and the fans. Whether you were a fan or not the racing world lost a great man on that day 10 years ago.
I was at that race and listened on the scanner as the accident happened and as the minutes unfolded after the race. It was a moment for me that I will never forget. We all have to move forward as hard as it is and these past 10 years in Nascar racing has seen huge changes. I often thought that if Dale Earnhardt was still alive the sport may be quite different today.
He truly was a racer first and had a gift for what he did. The racing world today and of years ago is so different I often wonder if it is the same sport. I have a friend, Dick Fleck, who has been involved in racing his whole life starting with racing on the beach in Daytona. He is beginning to sell off his huge racing collection and has many vintage Dale Earnhardt items among them.
These framed cards cards show Dale in an earlier time and make great collector items. I have many more vintage racing items to list on eBay in the coming weeks.
So if you are a Dale Earnhardt fan or just love vintage racing stop the Book Corner Cafe and check out my unique vintage collectibles.
My Friend’s End of Summer Sale
Posted by: | CommentsI belong to a wonderful group of online sellers that support each other in many ways and this week part of the group is running an EBay End of Summer Sale. Last month we did a Christmas in July Sale and decided to run a one week sale for the end of Summer.
Marion who sells at Freeland Enterprises designed this cute graphic for everyone to use. She often does graphics for us and I know when we run another sale you will see her work again.
Here is the list of my friends who are doing the sale. They offer quite a variety of items and sales from Storewide to just certain categories.
1. KatsKloset on eBay is offering 15% off all Camille Beckman Products (and you’ll love this line – the glycerin hand therapy is awesome! I use it exclusively for my painfully dry hands)
2. Birdhouse Books is offering 16% STOREWIDE! This store has one of the largest selections of vintage children’s book, ephemera and paper collectibles on eBay.
3. Like videos?? 20% off on Familynitemovies - lots of Family and Child-friendly videos there and then if you prefer more ADULT Content and are over 18 – 15% off on adult videos at Video-Town
4. 5% off EVERYTHING in the store at Freeland Enterprises
5. 11% discount on selected products at DepressionGlassWarehouse includes books, pottery and ephemera
6. Nicaluck’s is offering a 20% discount during the sale. They have an amazing range of vintage items.
7. Kdmore-Crafts-and-More is offering 10% off on custom made blankets, lap-robes and throws!
The next sale we are planning will be for venues other then Ebay such as Bonanzle, Etsy, Ecrater etc.
Staying Postive When Sales are Down
Posted by: | CommentsI know we all try to stay positive but when sales are down it is hard for the best of us. It is always easy to get into a negative frame of mind when sales are down and think why bother listing nothing is selling anyway. I am hoping by writing about this it will help us all to stop that from happening. I bet the first thing you do in the morning is check your email and your selling venues. I know that because that is what I do and often I check the sales venues before the email.
On a good day I wake up to sales and at least one sale will often make me happy and it is a great start to the day. I think okay I have one sale so I have the whole day ahead to have some more sales. The flip side is getting up and checking all the places I list and not seeing one sale. I know days like this happen but it is often not a good start to the day. I wonder if I will have sales at all that day. We need to tell ourselves it is a new day and to just wait to see what the rest of the day brings. I know you are saying that sounds good when I say it but it doesn’t work for me.
I have made a goal to list 10 books on Amazon and 5 auctions or FP or Ebay every day no matter whether I have a sale or not. I have been really trying to keep this goal and stay focused on listing even on those non sale days. I think this has helped me since I know I will list regardless of sales and I know this will help future sales. I do have a to do list every day and put this listing goal on there and I think that helps me separate the non sales days with the listing.
I have decided to focus on Ebay and Amazon for now but I know many people sell on many different places. I have found my sales are better if I am more focused on listing on just two sites for now but that is just me. I think the most important thing is to do what works best for you and your business.
For me having a daily listing goal no matter what my day starts out like helps to keep me focused and on track. I would love to hear some ideas on how you keep yourself focused on those non sales days.
Are You A Star Trek Collector?
Posted by: | CommentsI was going through a box and found some Star Trek items. I have never been a collector and so I thought I would put them up for auction since there are many people that collect and enjoy all kinds of Star Trek items.
This listing is for a set of 1980 Navigational Maps and Charts and a manual and a cardboard envelope. The 2 maps are double sided. These are the navigational charts of the five year voyage of the Starship Enterprise.
They are actually in very good shape and only the cardboard sleeve has some light wear from storage.
This auction will finish on Sunday night so please check out my auction and also my other Star Trek items Star Trek items. I am always happy to combine shipping to save you money.
Video Showcase of Ebay Items
Posted by: | CommentsI was looking for something a bit different for a blog post and did a short video of a few items from my Ebay Store Book Corner Cafe n More. I sell a variety of items and books and paper items are on the top of my list. I have always loved books and anything to do with paper.
This was very easy and quick to set up and I used the standard choices and the free version to try it out. There are things you can customize and also longer video’s with the paid version. I always like to try out the free one first and see how I like it before upgrading.
I would be happy for any feedback on the video and if there is something that you do not like I would also be glad to hear it. I know no one really wants to hear negative things but this would help me decide if this is something I would want to look into upgrading and also something I would use again.

Yard Sale Adventures
Posted by: | CommentsToday was another beautiful day here and yard sales were at everywhere. I try to plan as much of my day as possible using the newspaper and also stop at as many as I can. I have always looked at each new yard sale as a new adventure and you just never know what you might find. I like many are usually on a mission to find things to resell but I do keep an eye out for things for just me. I seem to bring home much more that is to be sold but there are still bargains to be found for things I plan on keeping. Today was no exception and one of the first things I found was a pair of new Wolverine Work boots for my husband and 3 great Betty Crocker Cookbooks for me. I know I should probably sell those cookbooks but I love to try new recipes and these are going to stay at my house.
Last week I found a really cute Christmas Blow Mold Elf and brought him home. I love Christmas and so I looked at him for a few days and was really tempted to keep him but decided to list him. You can see him here and I am hoping he finds a home sooner then later or he just might be staying.
He is so adorable and even though it is 90 degrees here today he still makes me think of Christmas. He lights up and actually has red bulb inside but that could be changed to white also. He does give off a cute glow with the red.
I think we all know what fun it is to go on a hurt for items to sell and I know I just have to remember to keep listing all this interesting items once I bring them home.
What treasures have you found at your yard sales?
New Star Trek Magic Slate
Posted by: | CommentsI have another rather unique item listed for sale for a Star Trek Collector. I was again working on a house clean out and found quite a few vintage Star Trek items including magazines, photos, flashlight, models etc and in the box was a new Star Trek Magic Slate. There are many people that will remember playing with these as a kid and since they are made of cardboard many did not last that long after a lot of use. This item is still new and has the pen sealed at the top. The date on this is 1978 and includes a 59 cent cost at the time. I have searched and really haven’t seen one of these offered anywhere and now have this listed for sale. This measures 13″ x 8″ in size and is made by Magic Slate. The fact this is new and rare makes this a very unique Star Trek collectible to add to your collection.
New Pottstown PA Jigsaw Puzzle
Posted by: | CommentsThis is an interesting item that would make a nice Christmas Present for someone who lives or has lived around the Pottstown PA area. I am involved in doing house clean outs in our local area and this was found in one of the boxes among many other treasures. This was a house that the people were in their 80′s and downsizing. I spent quite a few days there picking up items and also listening to quite a few stories they were willing to share. He was a member of our local rotary club and they had these made as a fund raiser. He explained all the work it took to get local businesses involved and the cost to them and I learned a lot. This puzzle was made in 1990 but today these streets look somewhat different. The interesting thing is what businesses are there and what ones are gone. I had never seen these before and I know they were only made in a limited amount and to find a new one is a treasure.
