Have you Thought about Your Weaknesses?

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Often it is hard to think about having any weakness but we are all human and so of course we have them as well as strengths. There is no right or wrong answer to this question but helping to know your weaknesses as well as your strengths can help you become a better business person. I think taking the time to look at both your strengths and weaknesses is important to any business owner and it will help you improve.

I know myself that being a morning person is a strength but doing important jobs at night is a weakness of mine. I have decided that after dinner is the end of my working day that includes listing and packing for that reason. We all make mistakes at times but I have a greater chance of making a mistake such as sending the wrong item to the wrong person if it is late at night. The fact that I know that helps me to avoid those problems and wait until the next day to pack and ship.

This is just one small example of a weakness and no one can really answer that question except for yourself. I think it is always good to take a few minutes at times and look at our self it will help both your business and your life.

Items I have sold on Cheapcycle

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I have used Cheapcycle quite a bit and sold many items from small shippable things to pieces of furniture. I had many people pick up their items but there are also quite a few willing to pay shipping for something they really want and I am happy to offer that option.

We often need to think outside the box when sales are slow and this is one way to add to your sales. These items that I have listed on Cheapcycle are not something I would list on my online venues but they made me money on Cheapcycle. You can find more informantion about Cheapcyle in my earlier post and see how easy it is to set up and use. I have listed thing there that have not sold and end up donating them but overall I have been happy with sales using Cheapcyle.

I made a quick slide show of 10 items that I have sold on Cheapcyle and some have been shipped and some were picked up.

Are You An OSI Rock Star Yet?

Posted by: | Comments (0)

This is the time of year when some sales slow down yet we all need to keep listing and learning about ways to improve our business and our sales. One way I learned was to join OSI Rock Stars with Janelle Elms who is fantastic.

We all need to think positive about our business and work hard to improve our sales. You will find all kinds of support here and knowledge about everything and anything.

Have you ever considered a paid membership site? I know I have been selling online since 2003 and had often asked these questions and was never really sure if a paid site was really worth the money. I learned by joining free groups, reading boards on eBay and other places and truly thought I was doing good. I had sales, moved to more venues, have great feedback and overall happy with how things were going.

Then a good friend of mine kept telling me that OSI Rock Stars was the site she would join if she had the money. Now my friend Beth who is a Power seller and sold for more years then I did got me thinking. You can check out her store Depressionglasswarehouse and see she knows what she is doing.

So I saw that OSI Rock Stars has a free newsletter and I signed up for that and was intrigued. There are also sneak previews on the site you can check out for free. I also talked to Beth and a few other people and decided to sign up and see if there was anything new I could learn.

I know now that I was wrong in thinking that I didn’t need a paid site to help my business. I was absolutely amazed with the hours of information, message boards and even personal answers from Janelle that Rock Stars are given. I am still learning and there is not a day that goes by that I do not learn or put to use something I have learned from being a Rock Star. You can join monthly or yearly and as a member you have full access to all the information included before joining.

You can follow me and Sign up to be a Rock Star today. I know it is the best thing I ever did.

I went to an auction the other week and bought some box lots. They are always so much fun and it is like Christmas morning when sorting through one of these boxes.  I often buy boxes of books and I had also gotten a box of magazines and other items. I left the books for last and decided to check out the magazines and other paper items.

I took the items out one at a time and was surprised in how good of shape they were in for their age. There were quite a few craft magazines and I listed 2 of them a 1937 Bucilla Cottons magazine and a 1947 Doilies Magazine . They are completely intact and the pages are tight. There are some nice  patterns in these magazines.

Then at the bottom of the box was a bag of vintage photos. They were all of people in various stages of life from little babies to older people. These photos were all in black and white except for one and there were many thoughts going through my mind.

I sat for awhile as I looked at those vintage photos and wondered if they were all the same family? If they were a lot of the same people at different ages and what their lives were like. I also wondered if someone  some day people will be looking at photos on the Internet or a home computer and wonder the same thing? Will looking at digital photos bring back the same feeling as holding these photos in your hand does?

What do you think?

Thanksgiving Day

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all and as I say that I wonder where the time has gone. People always told me the older I get the faster time goes and I am finding out they were right. Christmas and a New Year is just around the corner and will be here before you know it.

I know many will celebrate the day with friends and family but many are far away from home in harm’s way protecting our country. I truly know how lucky I am today and every day. The computer has brought into my life many very special people and online friendships that mean so much to me.  We may not be able to share dinner together but we are all with each other in spirit.

I just wanted to say Thank you and wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving today.

My Flea Market Find

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I love to go to yard sales and flea markets as many do and I had to share this find with you. I actually wasn’t planning on going to this one and since it was almost lunch time I thought all the good things would be gone but off I went. This was a local church flea market with a lot of tables set up and so I started to browse. I picked up a few things but nothing special and figured that I was right all the good stuff had been gone. I learned a long time ago to look in boxes and under things and I was almost at the end when I saw a box with purses on the top. I picked them up to check and found 4 black rotary dial phones inside.  You don’t see many of these anymore and so I asked how much and immediately paid and took them with me.

Many people today have no idea what this type of phone is but I  grew up with these in my house. They always sat on the desk with a phone book nearby and you could hear that ring all over the house.

One nice thing was if the electric went out the phone still worked unlike today’s phones with answering machines or cell phones that have to be charged.

There also was not a lot of privacy when you were on that phone if a family member was in earshot especially a sibling.  I can remember the joy of getting a cordless phone that I could actually take in my room and talk in private. Cell phones today have given us that privacy but for some reason many people will sit anywhere and discuss many private matters and do not care who hears.  Things change but in some ways stay the same.

I am planning on  hooking one up to use since I love vintage things. I won’t be giving up my cell phone any time soon but thought this would be nice in our spare room that includes my great grandmother’s bedroom set, family heirloom quilt and other assorted treasures from my past.  This black rotary phone looks like it belongs there and I am happy I headed to that flea marked.

Online Friendships

Posted by: | Comments (4)

Have you ever sat and thought how different your life is today with the computer as part of it? I think we all get frustrated at times with our computers and most have some  kind of love hate relationship with them. They are the most wonderful thing in the world when they are working and when they aren’t well let’s just say tossing it out the window has occurred to me.

I decided to stop and think for a minute exactly what I would be missing if I didn’t have a computer. I decided that I would be missing a big part of my life and not only my selling income but all the online friendships I have made over the years. I realized that I am actually closer to some of my online friends then my non online friends. We share so much together both the highs and lows of our lives and encourage each other all we can. I know I would be missing a big part of my life if it was not for the computer.

I am of the generation of Oh No!!  BC (before computers) and spent years having pen pals all over the world. We actually wrote letters and had to wait for them to arrive and then wait for an answer. I do miss that special moment waiting for the mailman to arrive with a letter from a far away country. The computer of course changed all that and we can chat in real time all over the world and (gasp) even see each other. The computer has put the world at our fingertips.

I want to take a minute and say thank you to a very special group of friends and share the blog we all post on. We are all authors and the posts run from online selling to personal issues. We truly are an online family and share and encourage each other. I have learned to much from being part of this group and a few others. The others are for another post.

This is the blog of our online family and if you have a minute check this out and meet some very special people.

Thanks for stopping by.

The World of Online Selling

Posted by: | Comments (0)

The world of online selling has been changing so fast and is so different from when we first started. Is this the same for you? Long gone are the days when you could list an item and have many people bidding on it for high prices. When is the last time you saw a bidding war on an item? I know we all miss those days but we cannot go backward and must adapt and change to the new online world of selling.

How have you changed your online selling strategies? We have started selling on multiple venue, using more free shipping, listing at both auction and fixed prices, diversify our items and the list goes on and one. We are sure each online seller has their own list and spend time each day trying to make this all work.

Life as well as online selling is an ever changing thing and I think we all must be flexible and willing to adapt constantly to be successful. What do you think?
